Alan Wallace was born in McKenzie, Tennessee, where his dad, Gary, played basketball at Bethel University. Gary and Alan’s mother Cathy supported Alan’s love for basketball, and helped him develop his skills to be able to earn a full scholarship to play college basketball at Freed-Hardeman University in Henderson, Tennessee.
After graduating in 2002, Alan and his wife Stacy moved to Lansing, Michigan to attend law school. After they both graduated from law school in 2005, they decided to stay in the Lansing area to practice law. They had 3 children, Jay (2003), Luke (2010), and Emery (2012).
Most people who knew him called him “Al”. Al spent a lot of his time coaching his children and others in youth basketball. He had a real passion for kids and sports.
In November 2019, Al was diagnosed with testicular cancer. He passed away 10 months later at the age of 40. Before he passed, several friends had suggested a fundraiser to support Al’s family. Al agreed to having a fundraiser in his name, but requested that the funds be used for a bigger purpose—to help support kids in sports who can’t afford the things they need to move forward.
The Alan Wallace Youth Sports Foundation was created to continue this philosophy and spread Al’s support of youth sports in the area.
